Feighan anger at government

The Government’s plan to destroy Roscommon County Hospital was slammed this week by Deputy Frank Feighan, who also slammed the ‘shameless propaganda’ being peddled by the HSE on the matter.  ‘For accident and emergency our County Hospital becomes a ‘Day Care Centre’ with no doctor or consultant after 8 pm. Why have the HSE spent years negotiating with consultants when now we are told that senior nurses will in fact provide better service than doctors – to quote Mr. Drumm. This sick joke continues, he tells us in fact Roscommon will be carrying out even more procedures now in scheduled surgery.’ Overstretched ‘The fact of the matter is Galway and not Claregalway is two hours travel time from Roscommon due to traffic congestion. People from Tuam would probably get to Roscommon faster than Galway. We know that services at Galway are already overstretched.’ He described the solution on offer from the HSE as ‘a totally impractical death trap’. ‘At a time when nurses are overstretched on the frontline and cut backs are the order of the day, we have wild and misleading talk of ferrying patients by helicopter non-stop from Roscommon to Galway. Everybody wants the best care possible, but it is both unfair and irresponsible to offer bureaucratic solutions to the people of our county that are not deliverable. I say call a halt now, cut or freeze the HSE, not our County Hospital,’ concluded Deputy Feighan.
