Traditional livestock and horse classes, a dog show, children’s competitions and a new scarecrow contest will all feature when Ballyforan Fair takes place this Saturday, September 19th.
Ballyforan Fair returns on Saturday, September 19th, with organisers promising a great day out for all the family – and admission is free.
The long-running fair will bring together its traditional agricultural attractions with a packed programme of family entertainment throughout the day. Livestock, the horse fair and sheepdog trials will run from 10 am to 2 pm, with sheep judging from 10.30 am and horse judging beginning at 11 am.
A wide range of horse classes will cater for everything from Irish Draughts and Sport Horses to Connemaras, cobs, ponies and donkeys, while young handlers will also get their chance to take centre stage. One of the highlights will be the Best Foal in Show, with the Paul Kelly Shield and €400 in prize money on offer.
There will also be an extensive programme of sheep classes, including categories for rams, breeding ewes, hoggets, lambs, fleeces and goats, along with young handler and pet lamb classes.
Younger visitors will have plenty to enjoy too. Children’s baking and craft competitions begin at 11.15 am, while Bernardo the Magician will entertain from 12 noon to 2 pm. Amusements and face-painting will continue throughout the day.
