Hastings Cup Roscommon 2-11 Longford 0-3 Roscommon completed their unbeaten run in the Hastings Cup U-21 competition when they easily overcame the weak challenge offered by Longford in a game played in bitterly cold weather in Ballyleague last Saturday afternoon. U-21 team manager Michael Ryan now knows that he has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal as this was a largely experimental Roscommon side. All the players who took part did very well, leaving Ryan and his selectors with several selection posers ahead of the Hastings Cup Final on Sunday, February the 10th next and the Connacht Championship next month. Roscommon led by 2-5 to 0-2 at half-time, the Roscommon goals coming from Cathal McHugh and Paul Allen who was particularly impressive up from, scoring 1-4 over the hour. Others to play well on the day were Brian O’Gara at midfield, Paul Gleeson at full-back, Sean Gilleran, Conor McHugh, Cathal McHugh and Robbie Gaynor up front. Longford also fielded an experimental team and there will be changes on both teams ahead of the final which will probably now be played at a Longford venue on Sunday, Febuary 10th.
