Excellent comeback just falls short

Galway …………………….. 4-10 Roscommon ……………….. 4-7 Roscommon U-14 ladies team were narrowly beaten by Galway in this exciting Connacht championship game played in Ballyleague last Saturday. The defeat means that Roscommon will now play in the ‘B’ final on May 1st next.   Roscommon staged an excellent second-half comeback that just failed after they trailed by 3-5 to 1-2 at half-time. Galway led by 1-2 to 0-0 after only 10 minutes  but Roscommon got back into it when F O’Connor shot to the Galway net however two more Galway goals saw them nine points ahead at the break.   Indeed it got worse for Roscommon on the restart when Galway got their  fourth goal. However Roscommon staged a great recovery after that. S Coll scored a great goal for the Rossies and after a Galway penalty was saved by Roscommon goalkeeper R Timothy, Roscommon got another goal from a Coll free. Despite Galway getting a few points, Roscommon corner-back S Dowd came up to score Roscommon’s fourth goal. Roscommon battled all the way to the end but they just could not get that all-important match-saving goal. The U-16 ladies team play Sligo away on the 1st May. Both games are in the opening round of the Connacht Championship.
