Roscommon Co-Operative Livestock Marts Ltd may be on the move with the recent purchase of a 65-acre residential farm holding located on the Lanesboro Road about two kilometres outside the town. The auction took place in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon last Friday and the purchase is estimated to have cost in the region of €1,305,500. The lands belonged to the late William Corcoran. There was significant interest in the land and bidding began at €800,000 with six individuals competing against each other to buy the land in its entirety or in lots. In the end it was the mart company who prevailed after two hours of auctioning and the deal was secured with a bid in excess of €1.3 million. This acquisition by the mart may pave the way for a move from their current location in the centre of the town, as it is known that they have been considering the possibilities of such a move for some time now.
