The search for the Roscommon Rose of Tralee is on… If you’ve ever dreamt of representing your county at one of Ireland’s premier festivals, as well as helping to earn money for hundreds of charities throughout the country, then this could be your chance. The search for the O’Brien’s Pharmacy Roscommon Rose of Tralee 2008 is now on and the committee is currently in the process of making preparations for what promises to be a truly wonderful Gala Ball Selection Night. The Roscommon Rose of Tralee selection has gone from strength to strength over the past number of years and it is now firmly established as one of the premier social events in the county. The main sponsors of the event are O’Brien’s Pharmacy and Health Food Shop in Roscommon town and Paddy Sweeney, the committee is delighted to have Charlie O’Brien and Paddy Sweeney on board once again this year. The Roscommon Rose of Tralee hopes to attract a large number of entries throughout the county. Following a forthcoming press launch on April 10th in the Abbey Hotel, the Gala Rose Ball will be held in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon town on Saturday, April 26th. This will be a wonderful day and night for the Roscommon Roses with plenty of fun and entertainment culminating in the selection of the Roscommon Rose who will then go forward to represent their county in the regional finals in Portlaoise this June. The chosen charity to benefit from this year’s event is the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice. Music on the night of the Gala Ball will be provided by the ever-popular Heatwave and MC for the night is Galway Bay FM’s Ollie Turner, while guests will also enjoy a four-course meal. The press launch for the Roscommon Rose of Tralee selection will take place on Thursday, April 10th in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon town, with special guest Galway Bay FM’s Ollie Turner. With a fee of €200, clubs, societies, associations, family and friends can nominate a Rose, in addition to businesses. Founded in 1959, the Rose of Tralee International Festival has flourished over the years and it is now firmly established as a national institution broadcast live on RTE television over two nights. The closing date for entries is Friday, March 14 th , so in order to have the chance of a lifetime as well as helping to raise funds for local and national charities it really couldn’t be simpler.
