The Roscommon Easter Parade is a sure sign that spring has sprung in Roscommon town as it is the first of a number of family events scheduled between now and the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The family fun kicks off this Easter Sunday (April 1st) with the parade starting at 1 pm. The parade has grown in popularity and is now a major event on Roscommon town’s calendar.
Spectators will certainly be out in force once more as the many colourful floats make their way from Abbeytown to The Square via Abbey Street and Main Street.
The parade committee told the Roscommon People earlier this week that they are once again expecting stiff competition among the various categories up for awards this Sunday.
Categories for honours this year include: Community/Voluntary, Commercial, Shop Window Display, Most Entertaining and Best Overall.
Participants are asked to be in position at 12.15 pm at Abbeytown ahead of the start time of 1 pm on Sunday and a final call for entries has been issued this week.
The parade continues to grow in popularity and participation, and local support, through both volunteering and funding, is integral to its success.
Anyone interested in lending a hand this Sunday is asked to contact Chairman John Doorly on 086-8115338.
The committee wishes to acknowledge sponsorship received from the local business community and funding support received from Roscommon County Council’s Festival and Events Grants Scheme this year which enables the parade to grow and promote Roscommon town and county as a great place to visit, work and live.
