Elphin to host County Fleadh for third year in a row

The Roscommon County Fleadh will be hosted by Elphin CCE for the third year in a row this Easter weekend, from Saturday (26th) to Monday (28th) of March.

This year’s Fleadh promises to continue the great atmosphere and fun experienced by all in previous years.

This Saturday there will be a national ballad singing session from 8 pm at An Bothar Rua and with music sessions in all pubs.

The Fleadh will be officially opened on Easter Sunday at 4.30 pm by county chairman Tom Shine. The ceremony will be followed by the presentation of the Gradam award to Cyril McDermott from Elphin.

Cyril has been a follower of Irish music and song for many years. He released a CD titled ‘Dear Old Elphin’ with local songs and new compositions in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice a few years back. Cyril is a man who always supports and promotes Irish culture. It is only fitting that he be presented  with Gradam an Fleadh 2016.

There will then be a singing session guided by Frances Murray at 6 pm in An Bothar Rua with all dancing competitions at 6 pm in Elphin Community centre on Easter Monday (28th).

The committee would like to thank sponsors, musicians and friends for their help and support over the last three years.
