Electrical works to commence at centre accommodating Ukrainian refugees

It is understood that electrical works are set to commence at the former Cuisle Centre in Donamon in the coming weeks to ensure the facility can be used to accommodate Ukrainian refugees in the long-term.

The cost of the required works had previously been mooted as the reason the Cuisle Holiday Centre was closed by the Irish Wheelchair Association in 2019. It is believed those refuges currently at the centre will remain there while works are being carried out.

Roscommon County Council had not responded to queries as the Roscommon People was going to press yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, a large group of further Ukrainian refugees is expected to arrive in Ballaghaderreen in the coming weeks.

It is understood that they will be accommodated in a number of apartments at the former site of the Old Western Hotel on Station Road in the town.

Preparations are ongoing to equip the apartments with furniture and household items.
