Eircom league previews

Bohemians v Longford Town Bohemians did not do much to lift their fans during a very poor game at Dalymount Park. Going into the game, Bohs had a narrow advantage over the College in the league table but there was nothing between them on the pitch.  Longford shared the points with Bray Wanderers. Both sides had chances to win it in the latter stages but ultimately a draw was the outcome.  Prediction: Home win   Drogheda United v Bray Wanderers Drogheda don’t now play in the eircom League for over two weeks and it showed recently when Waterford United picked up a much-needed point as they snatched a late draw.  Andrei Georgescu struck shortly after half-time to give Bray Wanderers a share of the points on their visit to Longford Town.  Prediction: Home win Derry City v Shamrock Rovers A 1-1 draw in their last game leaves Pat Fenlon’s side with just one win in their last eleven games.    Ger Rowe gave Shamrock Rovers a dramatic win over Sligo Rovers at Tolka Park.  Prediction: Away win Cork City v Sligo Rovers Cork City ended St. Patrick’s Athletic’s unbeaten start to the League of Ireland season thanks to a Roy O’Donovan penalty midway through the second half at Turner’s Cross. A very poor start for new boss Paul Cook. Rovers had no answer to a very strong Shamrock Rovers team. Prediction: Home win  First Division   Kilkenny City v Athlone Town  Kilkenny City, in Ballybofey: two Jonathan Minnock penalties set Finn Harps on their way with a five-nil win.   Athlone Town’s poor away record continued as they dropped points away to Cobh Ramblers. Prediction: Draw. – Dave Dibble
