Eircom league previews

Longford Town v Bray Wanderers Eddie Gormley’s Bray team went down to an Alan Murphy goal to give Galway United their first win of the season against Bray Wanderers. The win lifts Galway to within one point of Bray in the table. Longford looking set for back to back wins, Conor Sammon headed in the final minute as he connected with Ian Bermingham’s cross to make it 2-2. The point moves UCD up to sixth while Longford slip back into the relegation places after Galway’s win. Home win for Longford. Cork City v St. Patrick’s Athletic Cork City played out a 2-2 draw with Drogheda United, maintaining the seven point gap between the two clubs. St. Patrick’s Athletic have dropped their first league points of the season after Bohemians held them to a scoreless draw. A draw for me. Shamrock Rovers v Sligo Rovers Shamrock Rovers went down to top of the table St. Pats. Despite trailing 2-0 in the latter stages, Rovers like last week, got a goal back to make the end far from comfortable for the home side.  New manager Paul Cook was not happy to see Sligo Rovers drop points to Waterford United after they played out a 1-1 draw at the Showgrounds. Waterford will be the happier with the point having played for almost an hour with just ten men. Home win.   First Division Cobh Ramblers v Athlone Town Athlone Town and Finn Harps drew 2-2 in the First Division of the eircom League. Finn Harps remain second from bottom in the division with Athlone Town still fourth. Cobh Ramblers returned to second place to maintaining the four-point gap between them and leaders Dundalk. Graham Cummins scored in the final minute to give Cobh a 2-1 win over Monaghan United. Home win.
