Eileen, one of Roscommon’s oldest residents, dies aged 106

The death of one of Roscommon’s oldest residents occurred at Sonas Nursing Home, Cloverhill on Sunday last (19th).

Eileen Kilcline (nee McGawley), a native of Cloonsellan, Ballymurray, Co. Roscommon, passed away in her 107th year and was believed to have been one of the oldest Irish citizens at the time of her death.

She was laid to rest yesterday (Wednesday) in St. Coman’s Cemetery, Roscommon following funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Kilteevan.

Eileen had contracted Covid-19 in May 2020 but thankfully was asymptomatic. She celebrated her 106th birthday at Sonas in July of this year surrounded by her family and friends.

The grandmother-of-one had been a resident of Sonas Nursing Home for the past seven years.

Beloved wife of the late Brian and much-loved mother of John and Bernard, she will be very sadly missed by her sons, daughter-in-law Anne, granddaughter Aisling, nephew Joseph Hopkins, relatives, neighbours, and friends.
