Eight hospitalised after four-car collision

A total of eight people were injured and taken to three separate hospitals following a serious road traffic accident which involved four cars last Friday afternoon. The accident happened close to the Hill of Berries on the Roscommon to Athlone Road (N61) at 1.30 pm.    The eight people, which included one child, were taken to Roscommon County Hospital, Portiuncula in Ballinasloe and the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar.    The injuries sustained by those affected were said to be  serious but not life-threatening and Gardai say that all the injured have been released from hospital at this stage.   The main Roscommon/Athlone Road was closed to traffic until 1 am on Saturday morning and traffic was re-routed through Curraghboy, with delays resulting.
