Town to host 19th annual Easter Parade
The summertime festival season in Strokestown kicks off this Easter Sunday (April 1st) with the 19th annual Easter Parade. The parade is the first in a series of spring/summer events in the Co. Roscommon town which will also include the International Poetry Festival, Fairy Weekend, Famine Summer School, Agricultural Show and Féile.
The parade will begin at 3 pm in the town and the parade committee has confirmed that there will once again be an array of wonderful floats on display once again.
There promises to be strong competition this year with prizes awarded to the winner in the following categories: Schools/Youth Groups, Best Window Display, Industrial/Commercial Exhibits, Voluntary, Vintage and Agriculture.
The parade will take its usual route through the town and as always, it is expected that there will be a number of floats depicting all types of activity in the town and surrounding areas.
Organisers are expected the usual wide range of floats from agriculture, industry, novelty, vintage, community and music and there will be a number of bands attending from right across the county and from further afield.
Two bands will be providing music on the day: Midfield Band and the Foxford Brass & Reed Band. Retired Sgt. Walter Gibbons will take the salute this weekend.
The parade committee has also confirmed that there will be adjudication on shop windows with prizes once again awarded for the best decorated Easter shop window.
There will be fun for the whole family this Sunday in Strokestown with on-street entertainment including entertainment and sideshows as well as a whole host of street games taking place throughout the day. These added attractions will only add to the carnival atmosphere.
The event is organised by the Strokestown Community and Development Association and the Strokestown Town Team and promises to be a great day out for the whole family.
