Early morning train service needed

Business people in County Roscommon need an early morning service from Roscommon to Dublin, according to Deputy Denis Naughten.             ‘Currently the first train from Roscommon and Mayo arrives in Dublin at 10.36 am which is far too late for many people travelling to the capital. For people going to Dublin on business or going to Dublin Airport, arriving two miles from the city centre at this time is far too late,’ stated Deputy Naughten.             ‘At present many people from County Roscommon travel to Athlone, Longford and Mullingar to avail of an early service to Dublin but there is only limited car parking available at these locations.’             ‘This also causes significant hardship for those trying to attend appointments in Dublin hospitals. The HSE won’t provide transport and the Irish Rail service arrives too late for many people to get to medical appointments.             Deputy Naughten added: ‘If the Government is serious about encouraging people to leave their cars at home, then they must ensure that capacity and services are available on our rail network.             ‘I believe that there is a strong case for the introduction of an early morning rail service from Mayo and Roscommon and I have written to Irish Rail seeking the   introduction of such a service as soon as is practicable.’
