€9,730 raised for sub-aqua groups after successful tractor and car run

A recent tractor and car run in aid of Lough Ree and Roscommon Sub-Aqua Clubs turned out to be a great success with around 100 vehicles taking part. The charity event on October 24th was organised by Mid Roscommon Vintage Club and a substantial amount of money was raised.

Following the event, a cheque presentation of €9,730.00 was made to the two sub-aqua clubs in The Fireside Lounge, Clashaganny on Friday, November 12th.

Members of the vintage club visited Lanesboro on Sunday where they got a tour of the sub-aqua centre and viewed all the boats and equipment. A talk was given explaining the history of the club, which was founded in the 1990s and expanded in the 2000s. The club works closely with the Roscommon sub-aqua group and they are on call at all times to assist with rescuing people who get into difficulty in water related activity and also searching for victims of drowning accidents.

To illustrate the importance of the search and rescue teams, twice during the organising of the fundraiser, plans had to be put on hold as the sub-aqua members were called out on emergency search duties, which indicates their readiness and availability.

As the members of the sub-aqua are volunteers and most of their income comes from fundraising, they were very thankful and appreciative of the gesture of the Mid Roscommon Vintage club for running the car and tractor event in aid of their groups.
