Mid-Roscommon Fine Gael Councillor Domnick Connolly has called on HGV drivers to exercise extreme caution on rural roads in the Athleague/Rahara/Scrine area in view of the huge increase in traffic on these rural roads in recent weeks. ‘As a result of a large residential construction development on The Galway Road in Roscommon Town there has been a dramatic increase in heavy lorries carrying loads of stone using the roads in the Athleague to Rahara and Athleague to Scrine areas in recent weeks. ‘I welcome any major development for the area however I am appealing to the drivers and sub-contractors involved to exercise caution on these narrow, rural roads as they are used by local farmers, elderly people going to get their weekly pension and by school buses and children. ‘The roads in question are narrow and dangerous and not designed for this constant heavy traffic and I am making this call to avoid any possible accidents that might happen. I know most HGV drivers are careful but any accident would be one too many’ concluded Cllr. Connolly.
