Dooner’s weekend predictions – May 17th

Moore United pulled off an upset when they held their nerve in a penalty shootout to see off Boyle Celtic in the Joe’s Bar RDFL Challenge Cup Semi-Final last Saturday.

Moore will be underdogs again this Sunday when they face champions St. Peter’s in the final of the competition at Lecarrow.

Congratulations to Ballinasloe Town who captured the Premier Division Cup at the expense of Ballymoe last Sunday. An extra-time goal from Liam Lynch proved to be the winner.

Meanwhile, St. John’s Athletic will take on Ballaghaderreen FC in the final of the Division One Cup following emphatic wins for both sides over CP Ajax and Moylough’ 79 respectively.

This Friday night sees Glen Celtic and Roscommon United contesting the final of the Division Two Cup.

Friday, May 17th

Topline Ward’s Division Two Cup Final

At Lecarrow: Glen Celtic v Roscommon United. 8 pm

This could go either way. Both sides have taken points off each other in the league this season. Glen will be slightly fresher due to United’s promotion/relegation play-off last night (Wednesday) and the outcome of Friday’s final could depend on what happens between Roscommon and Ahascragh in Lecarrow.

Prediction: Roscommon United. Narrowly.

Saturday, May 18th

Norio’s Takeaway Division One Cup Final

At Lecarrow: Ballaghaderreen v St. John’s Athletic. 7 pm

Ballaghaderreen were very impressive winners over champions Moylough as were St. John’s over CP Ajax. This should be a tight game but the odds slightly favour the Lecarrow based side.

Prediction: St. John’s Athletic

Sunday, May 19th

Joe’s Bar RDFL Challenge Cup Final

St. Peter’s FC v Moore United. 2 pm

Moore’s hard-fought win over Boyle Celtic sees them taking on the back-to-back Premier Division champions at Lecarrow this Sunday. St. Peter’s will start as heavy favourites but United will be hoping to pull off another surprise and stop the Athlone side from retaining the cup.

Prediction: St. Peter’s FC
