The league season kicks off this weekend and it has the potential to be the most competitive Premier Division the Roscommon & District League has ever seen with the arrival of Boyle Celtic and St. Peter’s. Last season will take some beating though…
Friday, August 25th
The Herald Premier Division
Moore United v Cloonfad United (7.45 pm)
The home side will be expected to get off to a winning start here.
Prediction: Moore United
St. Peter’s FC v Ballaghaderreen FC (7.45 pm)
While maybe not as convincing as the cup game played recently, the Athlone side will be heavy favourites to get the win.
Prediction: St. Peter’s FC
Ballinasloe Town v Skyvalley Rovers (8 pm)
This promises to be an extremely competitive season and therefore the big guns will be hoping to get off to winning starts. Ballinasloe certainly fall into that category.
Prediction: Ballinasloe Town
Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two
Castlerea Celtic B v Boyle Celtic B (8 pm)
This promises to be interesting. Difficult one to call but expect all games between these clubs to be ultra-competitive.
Prediction: Castlerea Celtic B
Saturday, August 26th
Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two
Shiven Rovers B v Rahara Rovers (7.45 pm)
Rahara will be hoping to be at the top end towards the end of the season.
Prediction: Rahara Rovers
Sunday, August 27th
The Herald Premier Division
St. John’s Athletic v Dysart FC (10.45 am)
Dysart were impressive in Division One last year and may cause the Lecarrow outfit some problems.
Prediction: Draw
Castlerea Celtic v Boyle Celtic (11 am)
Castlerea will be out for revenge following the cup defeat but Boyle will fancy themselves to get a result in most places this season.
Prediction: Draw
Ballymoe FC v Shiven Rovers (2 pm)
The champions will be hoping to get their defence off to a winning start. Shiven were impressive last weekend however.
Prediction: Ballymoe FC
Norio’s Takeaway Division One
Dunmore Town v Ballinasloe Town B (11 am)
Dunmore will be hoping to improve on their fourth place finish last season.
Prediction: Dunmore Town
Hodson Bay Athletic v Lough Harps (2 pm)
This is a real test for Division One newcomers, Hodson Bay, and I fancy Harps who were the only side to beat Dysart in the league last season.
Prediction: Lough Harps
Ahascragh United v CP Ajax (2 pm)
Difficult start for Ajax against last season’s Premier Division relegation fodder. Ahascragh will be hoping for a much better season.
Prediction: Ahascragh United
Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two (2 pm)
Ballinagare FC v Cam Celtic
The home side really struggled last year while Cam remained competitive at the other end of the table.
Prediction: Cam Celtic
Cloonfad United B v Skyvalley Rovers B
Not a lot between these two last year. Same again?
Prediction: Draw
Roscommon United v Moylough ‘79
Both sides will be looking to push on this season. Home win this weekend.
Prediction: Roscommon United
