Dooner’s weekend predictions

So the Premier Division title race goes down to the final day! There are a number of permutations when the top four meet no more than a few kilometres away from each other on Sunday:

Moore are out of the running following their 4-2 defeat to Castlerea last Wednesday night while Ballinasloe would have to beat Castlerea convincingly and hope that Moore get at least a point in Ballymoe.

Ballymoe must beat Moore and hope that Connacht Cup finalists Ballinasloe beat Castlerea Celtic.

The champions meanwhile just have to get a result at home to Ballinasloe Town this Sunday. A point would probably be enough due to their superior goal difference.

Come 4 pm this Sunday the destination of the Premier Division title will be known.

In other news, Ballinasloe Town qualified for the final of the Connacht Cup last Sunday after they overcame St. Bernard’s after extra-time in Abbeyknockmoy. Liam Lynch’s goal after 107 minutes was enough to clinch it for the Roscommon & District side.

Elsewhere, Boyle Celtic surrendered a two goal lead as they crashed out against West United after extra-time last Sunday in Galway. The Sligo Superleague side went down 3-2.

Ballinasloe Town will now face West United in the decider on Sunday, May 28th in Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway.

Herald Premier Division

Shiven Rovers v Brazukas. 9 pm

A rather late kick-off for this one, don’t rule out a late goal or two due to players quite literally falling asleep.

Prediction: Shiven Rovers

Second Division Cup Quarter-Final

Roscommon United v Cam Celtic. 7 pm

Cam deserve something for their heroic run in the Connacht Shield.

Prediction: Cam Celtic

Saturday, May 13th

Second Division Cup Semi-Final

Strokestown United v Cloonfad United B. 7.30 pm

The double is on for Strokestown but might the return of the GAA club championship take its toll on the squad?

Prediction: Strokestown United

Herald Premier Division

Ballymoe FC v Moore United. 2 pm

A season that started so brightly for Ballymoe comes down to this. They’ll make their neighbours work for it anyway.

Prediction: Ballymoe FC

Castlerea Celtic v Ballinasloe Town. 2 pm

Backed Castlerea a few months ago so we’ll stick with them this weekend. It won’t be easy but they have home advantage and title winning experience.

Prediction: Castlerea Celtic

Second Division Cup Semi-Final

Roscommon United/Cam Celtic v Moore United B. 11 am

Cam Celtic (provided predictions are correct) will give Moore United a game, but the Division Two runners-up should make it a top two final.

Prediction: Moore United B
