Dooner’s weekend predictions

Friday, June 3rd

Premier Division/Division 1 Promotion Relegation Play-off (8.15 pm) at Shiven – Dysart FC v Ahascragh United:

Shiven will play host to this do or die match between Premier side Dysart and Division One outfit Ahascragh.

Games become tougher to call at this time of year and particularly promotion/relegation play-offs.

One would think, however, that Dysart would be extremely distraught to give up their place at the top table to a side that finished fourth in Division One.

Ahascragh have had a decent season but this will be a step too far. Prediction: Dysart FC.

Saturday, June 4th

The RDFL Challenge Cup Final (7 pm) at Lecarrow – Ballymoe FC v Castlerea Celtic:

This is the perfect way to finish another exciting season of Roscommon soccer. The game is previewed in extensive detail elsewhere but it’s only right it gets the full Dooner’s predictions treatment.

This final features two teams in contrasting form with Castlerea recently crowned champions and Ballymoe recently thumped 3-0 in the Premier Division Cup final.

Fortunately for Ballymoe the formbook goes out the window this weekend. It should be a cracking occasion with plenty of tribal warfare on and off the pitch. The stewards at the county pitch will have to be at their best to keep both firms apart.

It’s hard to look beyond Castlerea, and although Ballymoe can be proud of their season I just can’t see them coping with Celtic’s attacking threat. Prediction: Castlerea Celtic.
