‘Don’t forget your shoeboxes!’ – Appeal organisers

The people of Roscommon are being urged to assemble Christmas shoeboxes ahead of the November 11th deadline. The annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal has been a wonderful success in recent years and early reports suggest that this year will be no different!

The generous people of Roscommon have been filling shoeboxes with toys, stationery and other gifts ahead of their journeys to less fortunate children in Europe and Africa.

Organisers are calling on people to give the appeal one final push and to prepare shoeboxes for next Friday’s deadline.

Stephanie Edwards, events coordinator at The Melting Pot Café in Roscommon town, is delighted with the response so far: “There has been a big push in the last few days and we would like to continue that. We have two schools promised and we should be up on 400 shoeboxes.”

Stephanie said that there was still time for people to get involved and that now was the time to get ‘shoeboxing’.

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the follow points in County Roscommon: Mulligan’s Hardware, Ballaghaderreen; Trojan IT, Boyle; The Melting Pot; Scahill’s, Castlerea; Toymaster and George Bannon Sports, Roscommon town and Gannon’s Furniture on the Racecourse Road.
