Dominic’s domination

St. Dominic’s 1-7 Fuerty 0-9 Last year’s beaten finalists St. Dominic’s are through to the quarter-finals of this year’s competition, but only just, after they were almost caught by a spirited Fuerty outfit in the low-scoring IFC game played in Fuerty on Saturday evening last.             After an even first quarter, Dominic’s pulled away to lead by five points at half time, but Fuerty held Dominic’s scoreless for most of the second half while their own valiant effort just fell short. Aidan Weir’s goal three minutes before the break was the vital breakthrough that Dominic’s deserved to send them in 1-6 to 0-4 ahead at the break.             Fuerty fought like tigers in the second half. Mervyn Connaughton and Tom Bannon played well as Fuerty edged closer to Dominic’s, with points from Connaughton, Tom Hickey and Tom Reddington, and Connaughton levelled the scores with four minutes to go. However Dominic’s hero on the night was Conor Fallon who scored the winning point for the Knockcroghery men in the 31st minute.
