Keenan’s of Tarmonbarry in purchase of ‘The Lodge’
DNG Frank Regan recently completed the sale of two landmark public houses in the area. The company sold The Lodge public house, restaurant and B&B in Tarmonbarry, following the decision of proprietors Jim and Mary O’Reilly to retire. The premises had a guide price of €385,000. The purchasers are Barry and Annette Keenan, proprietors of Keenan’s Hotel, Bar & Restaurant in the village.
Frank Regan says that he had various enquiries from investors planning to develop the 0.74 acre site with various projects mooted. The sale price was not disclosed by Mr. Regan but he said both parties were happy with the price agreed. The Lodge has been a popular abode for many people down through the years. In addition, the B&B catered for, amongst others, sales reps or anglers from the UK who enjoyed the hospitality afforded by Jim and Mary and family over the past 18 years.
DNG Frank Regan has also recently sold The Kon-Tiki Bar and Restaurant premises c.3km from Rooskey village. The Kon-Tiki has been closed for some time now but the premises offers marvellous potential as a bar/restaurant/wedding venue. There is also a three-bedroomed cottage on site.
In its heyday, the Kon-Tiki was known far and wide for its cabaret lounge which featured Ireland’s greatest ballad groups. The new owner plans to carry out substantial refurbishment of the property, which hopefully will restore Kon-Tiki to its former glory.
Given the increasing number of tourists visiting the Shannon, its lush lakes, smart marinas, convenient moorings and availability of summer homes close by, the Kon-Tiki project will be a welcome addition to the hospitality and entertainment sector in the area.
The sale price was not disclosed by Mr. Regan, who advised that the purchaser has local connections.
