A design team is set to be appointed by the end of October to progress the proposed 20-bed rehabilitation unit at Roscommon University Hospital.
The HSE confirmed that preliminary design work on the project will begin following the appointment, with a spatial plan for the hospital campus already completed.
The update was provided in response to a question submitted by Cllr Valerie Duffy to the Regional Health Forum West and North West.
Cllr Duffy sought a detailed update on the proposed regional rehabilitation facility, for which funding had previously been allocated to advance the project through the design process.
In its response, the HSE confirmed that the development would comprise a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, together with associated outpatient services.
The completed spatial plan for the Roscommon University Hospital campus will now be used to inform the preliminary design stage.
The project is included in the HSE’s capital plan for 2026 and is also expected to remain on the plan for 2027.
“The HSE remains fully committed to the delivery of the rehab unit at RUH,” Assistant National Director of Capital and Estates N Colleary stated.
No construction commencement or completion date was provided in the response.
