Denis lines out for Ireland U-18s

Roscommon town’s Denis Buckley, who is a student in Blackrock College in Dublin, is part of the Irish squad which will play in the U-18 Six Nations Rugby tournament which is being held in Cork this week. Denis has won a Junior Cup medal with Blackrock and has also played at Senior Cup level.    Ireland opened their campaign against Wales in Musgrave Park yesterday (Wednesday). On Saturday Ireland play Scotland, also at Musgrave Park, and Ireland will complete their campaign against Italy at the same venue on Tuesday 1st April.   Denis Buckley (17) who is a prop forward, is son of Maurice and Mary Buckley of Hyde Court, Roscommon.    This week when contacted by the Roscommon People Mary Buckley said that the family were delighted with Denis’s progress. She recalled how he started playing rugby in Creggs as a young boy. He was encouraged by Creggs stalwarts such as Michael Oates. Indeed the role played by Creggs RFC in his development has been very significant.    Having attended Abbey Boys N.S. and St. Mary’s Primary School, Roscommon, Denis continued his education in Blackrock College where he has developed his love of rugby, first nurtured in Creggs, to tremendous effect.  Connacht Elite Academy   In addition to his outings as an U-18 international Denis has attended the Connacht Elite Academy over the last three years as he continues to enhance his reputation as a rising rugby star.
