Roscommon County Council has confirmed that they are now open to submissions from artists to produce a new sculpture with a budget of €49,000 for The Square in Roscommon town.
The deadline for submissions is 4 pm on August 23rd for the artwork, which will be mounted on a polished concrete plinth on the newly-developed Square.
The local authority says the ‘Sculpture on the Square’ commission is part of the final elements of the Roscommon Town Main Street and Market Square Public Realm Project which was funded under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.
The commission, it says, is intended to provide opportunities for dialogue and participation with the local community. Community representatives will be included in the assessment panel.
A description of the project on the local authority’s website reads: ‘As part of a two-stage competition, artists will be required to provide a detailed project proposal including concept visuals, methodology, technical information, timeframe and budget breakdown.
‘After assessment, a site visit will be arranged. Successful artist(s) will engage with GKMP consultant architects, consultant artist Rhona Byrne and Roscommon County Council Regeneration Team and Arts Office to finalise the design output and installation on the polished concrete plinth.
