‘Darkness Into Light’ events this weekend

Pre-registration for this year’s Darkness Into Light run/walk will take place at locations across Roscommon this weekend with events due to take place in Roscommon town, Ballygar, Castlerea and Carrick-on-Shannon.

  Pieta House, the suicide prevention charity which is celebrating 10 years in existence, is calling on people to sign up for what is set to be the biggest Darkness Into Light event ever held. The charity’s annual fundraiser held in association with Electric Ireland, will take place in 90 venues across Ireland on the 7th of May.

  Darkness Into Light is an early-morning experience which begins in darkness at 4.15 am with thousands of people walking or running a 5km route. Last year’s event attracted 100,000 participants in 80 locations.

            Registration for the Roscommon town event will take place in the shop unit beside Magnum’s restaurant on Main Street on Saturday (April 30th) from 12 pm to 6 pm, Sunday (May 1st) 11 am to 5 pm, Thursday (May 5th) 6 pm to 8 pm and Friday (May 6th) 6 pm to 8 pm.

  Ballygar organisers will host their annual bag pack at Holmes Centra, Ballygar on Friday, 29th and Saturday, 30th April to coincide with pre-registration for next week’s event. There will be two registration locations in Castlerea this Friday (April 29th), in Cahill’s SuperValu on Main Street and Lyon’s Mace in the Square.
