Family members and public representatives were offered no assurances over the future of the Rosalie Unit in Castlerea following a meeting with Minister Jim Daly and HSE officials in Dublin last night (Wednesday).
Cllr. Paschal Fitzmaurice claimed that the group representing residents of the Rosalie Unit were shown no compassion during the meeting. He also revealed that Executive Clinical Director of HSE West, Amanda Bourke, was instructed to stay away from the meeting by HSE Chief Officer Tony Canavan.
“We were offered absolutely no assurances and we are no further down the road than we were before. We are very disappointed.
“One of the HSE officials, Amanda Bourke, wasn’t at the meeting despite the fact that Minister Harris had requested her to be there. Tony Canavan had stated and that he had instructed her not to attend.
“In a sense we were hoping that we would have a glimmer of hope but we were shown no compassion,” he said.
Cllr. Fitzmaurice was adamant that the fight for the future of the Rosalie Unit would continue despite this latest setback.
“We’re not going to give up, we’ll continue to fight on,” he concluded.
