Anthony Cunningham, the St. Brigids manager, was extremely disappointed when I sought his reaction after the game. ‘We are desperately disappointed. We were certainly as good, if not better, than them, but a few frees went astray and the second goal was a soft one to concede. ‘It’s very tough on the lads because I know how much of a huge effort that they have put in this year’ he said. ‘We had a huge amount of work to do to get back into the game after the two goals – and to get within a point was great – but we just couldn’t get the equalising point and even Mark’s (O’Carroll) chance at the end was very unlucky in that it didn’t go in, but I suppose it wasn’t to be for us this year’ he said. ‘We have a great young team here in St. Brigids and there is one thing for certain: these players will be back. They are very talented and they have a great future ahead of them. It is a pleasure to work with them’ he concluded.
