‘Cowen has my vote’ – Finneran

Paul Healy  Roscommon/South Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Michael Finneran was not hedging his bets when asked by the Roscommon People last night (Wednesday) who he thinks should succeed Bertie Ahern as Fianna Fail leader and Taoiseach following Mr. Ahern’s shock resignation this week.    Speaking from the USA, Deputy Finneran said the person best qualified to succeed Mr. Ahern is Finance Minister Brian Cowen. ‘Brian is the man to lead Fianna Fail and the country now and he will have my support.’    Paying tribute to Bertie Ahern (see page three), Deputy Finneran said that he would like to see a smooth transfer of leadership with no contest being necessary.
