County has eighth highest rate of Covid-19

There were fewer than five new cases of Covid-19 in Roscommon yesterday (Wednesday), but the county still remains eighth highest nationally in terms of its 14-day incidence rate, currently at 153.4.

There has been some good news in recent days, however, as Roscommon’s five-day moving average has reduced to six. The county has recorded 99 new cases of Covid-19 in the last fourteen days.

Nationally, the Department of Health was notified of eighteen additional deaths yesterday afternoon and 683 new cases.

As of 8 am yesterday morning, 329 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, with 76 of those in ICU. There were eighteen additional hospitalisations in the previous 24 hours.

On the vaccine front, as of Sunday, March 21s, here had been 680,015 doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered in Ireland. 495,824 people had by then received their first dose while 184,191 had received their second.

Locally, the Roscommon Vaccination Centre officially opened at the Abbey Hotel on Monday and is expected to administer 1,800 doses of vaccine per week.
