County Board appoints Ryan

Roscommon Gaels footballer and County U-21 manager Michael Ryan has been appointed as manager of the county senior team for the 2008 Championship season. He replaces Paul Earley who stepped into the breach for the two final league games following the resignation of John Maughan (see interview with Michael Ryan on page 64).    The following statement was issued this week by Roscommon County Board:    ‘Michael Ryan has been appointed as manager of the Roscommon Senior Football team for the forthcoming Connacht Championship. Michael was manager of the County U-21 side that reached the Connacht final this year.    Corner-back on the last Roscommon team to win the Connacht senior championship (in 2001), Ryan is a member of the Roscommon Gaels club and continues to play senior football with them.   Michael replaces Paul Earley who stepped in as interim manager following the resignation of John Maughan earlier this year. From the outset Earley was adamant that his tenure would cease following the completion of Roscommon’s NFL Div. 2 campaign.   Roscommon County Board wishes to thank Paul Earley and his fellow selectors Martin McDermott and Donal Casserly for their work with the senior panel over the past weeks. Their contribution has helped to restore morale after a difficult time for the GAA in Roscommon.   Roscommon open their championship campaign against Galway on May 18th in Pearse Stadium.’
