Convention this month

Aengus Cunningham and Chris Doolin of St Comans hgave started their county junior 40 x 20 championships in excellent form beating Paul Deane and Ray Carty of Lisacul in straight sets and they also beat Sean Jennings and Dennis Creaton by two games to one. In the Junior B singles Nigel Neilan beat John Kennedy and Oisin Naughton defeated Niall Gordon. Oisin will now play Dara O Gara in the next round. Brendan Mc Donagh got a walkover from Michael Kennedy and Shane Hennelly beat Thomas Mc Grath. Dennis Creaton beat Philip O Connor and Niall Mc Grath beat Sean Jennings. Th finals of the Irish nationals 40 x 20 competition with be held on 15th and 16th of March at Kilkenny. The qualifier rounds will be played in early Febuary. There are boys  and girls under 13,15,17 and 19, men’s open singles men’s A ,B and C singles ladies opena and ladies A singles. Masters B singles and Golden Masters A and B singles. Closing date for entry 15th Jan 2008. Entry fees: 45 Euro Adults Students 30 Euro 25 Euro and 25 Euro for the underage events.Only players on the club register can enter. The St Brigids club in Curraghboy were beaten in the recent 40 x 20 All Ireland club finals by Cavan Gaels by 84 points to 22. After an excellent Connacht campaign for Curraghboy Cavan Gaels were just too good for St Brigids in the final. St Brigids team: Philip O Connor Billy Kelly Padraig Coyle Paul Kelly. The Irish Handball Council has outlined to the Co Board the importance of  players being  registered with their clubs. The Co Roscommon Handball Convention will be held on Monday 21st January. Clubs should have nominations and motions with the secretary in good time.
