Employment in private firms (with five or more persons engaged) in the construction industry decreased by 10.3% in January 2008 by comparison with January 2007, according to figures released recently by the Central Statistics Office. The monthly employment index decreased from 110.0 in January 2007 to 98.7 in January 2008. The final figure for December 2007 showed a decrease of 6.3% when compared with December 2006.
