Console kayak duo to tell all in JJ’s

Tonight (Thursday, 24th March) JJ Harlow’s in Roscommon town will play host to a talk and slideshow given by two men who circumnavigated Ireland in kayaks in aid of national suicide charity, Console.

Ruairí Leddy from Roscommon town and Pearse O’Toole from An Spideal in Galway set off from Spideal last July and following an arduous six-week journey filled with “pain, sweat and tears” they arrived back there to a hero’s welcome.

Their journey took them right around the island of Ireland from Sheephaven to Howth and onto Cobh with many points in between.

The two lads completed their adventure for what was and is a very worthy cause.

Ruairí says the conditions weren’t ideal and there were times the duo questioned their decision to take on the adventure. A decision that was made in a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland, of all places.

“It wasn’t a great summer weather-wise as you can imagine and there were times it caused delays. It was six weeks of pain, sweat and tears to be honest but a great experience,” said Ruairi.

Ruairí and Pearse will be in JJ’s tonight at 8.30 pm to give a full account of their adventure. They are asking for a €2 donation to Console and everyone is welcome.
