Conscious Cup Campaign kicks off

The Roscommon County Council and Tidy Towns backed Conscious Cup Campaign is picking up steam with ‘Rossies Use Your Mug’ reusable cups now available in outlets throughout Roscommon Town for the reasonable price of €7.

The new cups can be brought to participating businesses in Roscommon to be used in place of takeaway cups. Organisers hope this campaign will encourage consumers to purchase a reusable cup and therefore cut down on waste.

Suzanne Dempsey, Environment Education Officer with Roscommon County Council and Cllr. Kathleen Shanagher recently enlisted the support of thirteen local businesses.

Cllr. Shanagher said the campaign would be a major boost to Roscommon town’s fight against litter.

“The money from the sale of the cups will go back into Roscommon Tidy Towns so it’s a win-win. Also, there’s a Sustainable Waste category in Tidy Towns and it’s a very difficult category to earn points in so we’re hoping this project will help us next year.”

Suzanne is thankful to the local businesses who have so far supported the campaign.

The businesses featured here have agreed to take part and are offering 15c discount to customers that use a reusable cup for their takeaway teas and coffees.  The new cups can also be purchased at Roscommon People offices on Abbey Street in Roscommon town.
