Local Fine Gael Councillor Domnick Connolly condemned the attack and called for the Government to review the downgrading and closure of rural Garda Stations. ‘People are shocked. In a quiet country area like Donamon the likes of this has never happened before. I condemn it and would call on people to be more vigilant and to keep an eye out for unusual movements in the community and hopefully with the help of the Gardai we can combat this type of crime. ‘It raises the issue of the closure or downgrading of rural Garda Stations. There’s only one Garda in Creggs and one in Athleague and at weekends they have to help out in Roscommon town so I feel the Government should review the closure of those Garda stations.’
