After the game Roscommon selector Kieran Connell pointed to the missed opportunities and the concession of the soft goal in the first half as vital incidents in the game. ‘I thought that we did very well but to miss those chances in the first half and then to concede a soft goal was a ‘killer’. It was hard to come back after that’ he said. ‘However we played well despite all that. Some of the young guys were very good and remember that the Athleague lads only came back from the USA the day before – so that was a factor too. ‘We have to get the team ready for Saturday’s trip to Mullingar which will be a tough second game -but we are looking forward to it’ he concluded.
