Connaughton in focus on two local bridges

With work now well underway on road widening between Roscommon and Athleague, Cllr. Martin Connaughton this week reported that the focus of his priorities has now shifted to two local bridges Lisadurn bridge and the bridge on the Ballinagard Road.   ‘Last Thursday we had a mid Roscommon County Council area meeting in the chamber of Roscommon County Council. Councillors and engineers were there. It was highlighted at that meeting that work is progressing on the Athleague to Roscommon road.   ‘When I was elected in 1999, my top priority was to get the road widened into Athleague. It was so narrow and as the main Roscommon to Galway road, with heavy traffic going to Kepak in Athleague and Murray’s Timber in Ballygar, it was seriously dangerous.   ‘I want to thank Martin Keaveney and his staff and Eugene Dwyer and the council staff for their work on this project. It’s a magnificent job and it’s nearly complete.   ‘My top priority now is two bridges, Lisadurn and the bridge on the Ballinagard Road. There is a serious amount of traffic on the bridge on the Ballinagard Road and it must be upgraded in the interest of safety. In the meantime, the council will put up signs on the Lisadurn bridge because two cars cannot meet on that bridge.   ‘The other thing that I did raise was the design plan on traffic and parking in Roscommon and was it incorporated into the draft development plan.’
