Concerns over Rehab Unit delay

Concerns were raised over delays to the planned Rehabilitation Unit at Roscommon University Hospital at a recent meeting of the Hospital Action Committee, according to Cllr. Valerie Byrne, who said that despite the fact that a design team has been in place since May 2016, progress remains slow.

Cllr. Byrne said: “This design team was appointed and although they have met they do not seem to have made the progress expected at this stage and seem no closer to a realistic timeframe for the rehab unit being delivered. The rehab unit for Roscommon University hospital does not seem to be a priority.

“Roscommon University Hospital continues to provide excellent services and we have to ensure that it keeps developing so that it is a key player in health care going forward. The rehab unit we believe will be delivered but we must ensure it is delivered in Roscommon,” she said.

This week the Hospital Action Committee has written to the HSE for an update on and the unit. The HAC has also contacted local Oireachtas members about the current situation.
