A day of fun for all the community is planned for 2nd of September to mark the official opening of the Sliabh Bawn recreational facilities in Doughill Forest.
The recreational amenities include a trim trail for fitness, an equestrian trail, six looped walks, a raised viewing platform, additional car parking and a new picnic area and were developed as part of the Sliabh Bawn wind farm.
To celebrate the opening of the best in class amenities, Sliabh Bawn Power is hosting a free family day for all community, inviting people to participate in a 5K fun run or a 10K run along the brand new track and trails or walk to the viewing platforms and take in Sliabh Bawn’s historic sights. Children can come along to meet the teddy bears for a picnic at the picturesque picnic spot and hear a story on the summit.
The official opening of the amenities takes place at 10 am and is followed by a morning of activities. Registration for the 5K fun run and 10K run takes place at 9.30 am. The runs will commence at 10.30 am. A teddy bears picnic and story time will take place from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at the summit. Take the opportunity to walk the trails and see some of the historical sights on Sliabh Bawn with the history walks that will also be taking place on the day.
Registration for the event is now open at https://sliabhbawnrecreationallaunch.eventbrite.ie and people can register in advance for all activities. Pre-registration will ensure that visitors can you secure some of such as running and walking vests, lunch boxes for the picnic and more.
