Community effort

This is a real community effort, the chairperson John Boyle said. ‘I want to thank everyone especially Benny O’Connell, of Benny’s Restaurant, Michael Guthrie of Finola Foods, Castlerea, Dun Carraig and Gilmartin’s Cash and Carry, Castlerera for the mineral water, The Catslerea Brass and Reed Band and the local media for their generous coverage and support. And of course all the people who participated, the sponsors and the great army of voluntary helpers, all who contributed so much to the ongoing success of the event which has now raised over €275,000 for GOAL’s work for the poorest of the poor.’    Extending her thanks to the efforts been put in by the organisers of this year’s St. Stephen’s Day walk in Ballintubber, Maura Lennon of GOAL said that the Ballintubber Walk was a very worthwhile event , ‘not only because of the money it raises, but also because it gives participants a chance to show their solidarity with the poorest people on earth.’ Perhaps this is why the Ballintubber walk and other GOAL events that take place around Christmas are so popular.   Anyone wishing to take part in or organise a fundraiser for GOAL or by helping in any other way can do so by contacting Ronan Scully, GOAL Office Galway at (091) 6189094. Remember you can make a donation to GOAL directly, by sending a cheque or postal order to GOAL, Unit 13, Enterprise Centre, Westside Galway or if you wish to donate by credit card you can phone (091) 587901.
