The overall winners at a recent graded swimming gala held in Ballinasloe swimming pool was a jubilant Coman’s Swimming Club from Roscommon, which came home with 12 first places out of the 17 races they entered on the night. The club also picked up six second place and four third places to make it a great night for the Roscommon swimming club. One of the best races of the night was the girls 13 years and under 100m butterfly with Roscommon’s Ciana Kelly and Emma Ryan finishing joint first, which resulted in personal bests for both the swimmers. Tymora Stannett Freeman came in second place in the same race. The aim of the graded swimming gala is to give swimmers the opportunity to move up through the swimming divisions. The overall picture looks good for Coman’s Swimming Club, with the likes of Darragh Bailey, Rhys Connolly, Ciana Kelly, and Emma Ryan, Tymora Stannett Freeman all showing progress. Darragh Bailey went on to achieve his personal goal of three A times in the gala. Ronan Cahill from Castlerea also recorded an A time in the Under 11 butterfly. The parents again supplied most of the entertainment from the gallery and the atmosphere was great on the night. It’s great to report that a small swimming club, like Roscommon, is doing so well.
