U14 squad to play Longford On this Saturday morning September 1st at 11 am Roscommon U14 football development squad (A) will play Longford at St. Faithleach’s GAA grounds in Ballyleague. All players on Roscommon’s two squads are asked to be in Ballyleague at 10.30 am sharp as one squad will be undertaking a coaching session while the other one plays Longford. Our development squad (B) played the Leinster boys a week earlier and won. It is expected on the following Tuesday evening the two Roscommon squads will play Sligo at a Roscommon venue. Boys will be told in Ballyleague on Saturday morning all the relevant details regarding the Sligo games. Comfy Café quarter finals Wednesday 12th September A. Tuesday 23rd October. 2nd year football blitz day: Tuesday 9th October. U14 squads played Westmeath Last Wednesday evening in Phairc Chiarán Athlone Roscommon U14 football development played Westmeath and after a very enjoyable evening’s football both counties won two games each. It was also great to see so many parents in attendance. On the evening all players on the Roscommon development squad received a Roscommon training top. U15 football coaching session The next coaching session for our U15 football Development squad will take place in Kilbride GAA pitch on this Tuesday evening August 28th at 7 pm sharp for all players on the panel. Coaches return All our part-time coaches in both football and hurling will be back in the primary schools on Monday September 10th for the first of our ten week coaching cycle in all schools within the County. Inter-county hurling blitz This year’s All Ireland U16 B hurling inter-county blitz took place in Mullingar last Saturday. The event was run on the same format as the Tony Forester U14 competition. 12 teams will took part including Roscommon. The line up was as follows, Kerry, Roscommon, Mayo, Down, Derry, Armagh, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow, Carlow and Laois. Roscommon were in the same group as Carlow, Kildare and down and we will have a full report here in the coaching corner next week on how the Roscommon boys did. Blitz day in Galway The date for this year’s Connacht U14 football blitz is Saturday September 8th and it will be held in NUIG sportsground of Dangan in Galway City with 12 teams from the five Counties taking part on the day, Roscommon will have two squads taking part. U15 blitz in Castlebar Saturday September 29th is the date for this year’s Connacht U15 football blitz day and the venue is McHale Park Castlebar with 12 teams in the blitz from all the five counties; Roscommon will have two squads taking park. U15 training in Kilbride Roscommon Coaching and games development County U15 football squad coaching session will continue for all players on this Tuesday evening August 28th in Kilbride at 7 pm sharp.  Players must bring their own water and fruit to training at all times and a full turn out of players is expected and good luck to players who are still involved in the County U16 football championship in all divisions. U14 training Roscommon coaching and games development County U14 football squad coaching session will continue for all players on the squad next Tuesday evening September 4th in Kilbride at 7 pm sharp. In the meantime matches against Westmeath and Longford are on the menu with the possibility of Sligo. All Players must bring their own water and fruit to the sessions. Keep up the good works lads with the commitment and dedication shown so far.  Coaching DVDs for Sale The Roscommon Coaching and Games Development have some excellent coaching DVDs for sale from their coaching workshops held over the past few months, coaching the tackle with Des Newton, fitness with the ball by Mickey McGeehan, forward play by Martin McHugh and a coaching session with All Ireland winning Kerry manager Jack O Connor. All DVDs cost 10 Euro and can be purchased from Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County Board Office or by contacting coaching officer Seamus Sweeney.
