GAA convention dates for football and hurling The dates for this year’s Roscommon GAA annual convention for football and hurling are as follows: the Roscommon minor board AGM is on Monday night, November 26 th in the county board office at 8 pm, the senior hurling board AGM is on Thursday night, November 29 th and the senior football AGM is on Monday night, December 3 rd in the county board GAA offices. FUN DO resource demonstration nights for clubs Clubs or schools who have purchased the new FUN DO DVD Rom and who would like a demonstration can contact Games manager Willie Hegarty for more information as our full-time GAA coach Peter Carney will deliver the presentation.  Roscommon GAA underage club coaching conference and workshop For the first time ever Roscommon coaching and games development committee will be holding an underage GAA coaching conference and workshop for all clubs in the county for both football and hurling – on Saturday, December 1 st in the Abbey Hotel,  Roscommon. The main theme of the conference will be all about coaching and drafting development plans to tailor the needs of all clubs within the county to ensure they are catering for all our young players adequately. Every club will be allowed to send three delegates to the conference. More details later when the agenda is completed and on the day we will have a guest speaker to address the conference. National GAA Games Development conference 2007 The annual national GAA Games Development conference whose theme this year is creating a platform for people to play and stay with the GAA will take place in Croke Park on Saturday, November 24th from 9.30 am to 5 pm. Some of the topics include Burnout, fadeout and dropout, Performance Analysis – keeping track of the basic playing facts – integrating ball work and fitness, understanding the trade off between time and space-attacking/defending, preparation for games, rehearsal, routines, focusing and motivation, club pitches, essential do’s and don’ts, analysis of Gaelic football 1970-2006.    Guest speakers include John Sugrue, trainer of Kerry senior football team;  Brian Cody, Kilkenny hurling manager;  Neil Wood, rugby league services manager; Richard Hayden, STRI Croke Park pitch maintenance. The cost of the conference is €100. Great reaction to Nicky Rackard Cup visit to schools There was a great reaction to the visit of the Nicky Rackard Cup to all the hurling primary schools last week. We thank the management team for making their services available along with players, county board officials, club officials and the trojan work of our three hurling coaches in the schools – namely Prionsias Killian, Michael Carroll and Simon Coyle.     Roscommon schools in Connacht colleges football action Starting this week all our secondary schools will be involved in the first round of fixtures in the Connacht Colleges football championship at B and C level. Good luck to all Roscommon players and schools with the big game locally between Castlerea Community School and St. Aloysius College in the Connacht Colleges C football championship preliminary round. Next session for Roscommon U14 football development squad The next coaching session for the Roscommon U14 football development squad will take place in Kilbride GAA Park on Saturday, November 24 th at 10.30 am sharp and will be conducted by Tony McManus. U15 football development squad conclude games programme   Roscommon U15 football development squads concluded their season with two games day against Sligo and Leitrim respectively over the last two weekends at St. Faithleachs GAA pitch in Ballyleague. We thank St. Faithleachs club for all their co-operation in allowing us use their facilities.  Fun do learning resource pack for sale   Primary schools and clubs along with any coach can now purchase this FUN DO learning resource pack, which covers Gaelic Football, Hurling, Ladies football and Camogie. The Roscommon coaching and games development committee would like every club to at least buy one as they aim to improve their underage structure within the club from U6 to U12. The cost of the DVD at present is €50 (special rate) which includes both football and hurling. It has up on 1000 drills in all the skills of the game in both codes. This extraordinary production filled with drills, skills, tips and resources means coaching kids from six upwards has just got a whole lot easier. Primary school coaching in the National schools Next week will be week 10 and final week of our coaching cycle in part one of our football and hurling coaching programme with our part time coaches in both codes in all primary schools within the county.
