VHI Roscommon cul camps forms to be returned We would ask all parents to return the VHI Roscommon cul camp forms for the various venues in both football and hurling to GAA games manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon County GAA board office ASAP. Roscommon minors in action on Saturday evening The coaching corner would like to wish the Roscommon minor football team the very best of luck on this Saturday evening in Tuam as they play Galway in the Connacht semi-final at 7 pm.  Roscommon sports partnership launch strategic plan On this Thursday night June 26th Roscommon Sports Partnership Board in association with the Irish Sports Council will launch their Strategic plan 2007-2012 in Gleeson’s Townhouse at 8 pm. John Treacy, CEO of the Irish Sports Council will perform the launch. People interested in all sports are invited to attend on the night. Primary schools Skills challenge a huge success This year’s Roscommon’s primary schools skills challenge in both football and hurling proved to be a huge success. Already finished are the boys and girls football skills final, while this week sees the hurling and camogie finals take place. Names of winners here in the coaching corner next week. In the boys football final one player got full marks of 100 from the ten skills. Club U16 9-a-side football blitz evenings for July The Roscommon coaching and games development will be organising a county club U16 9-a-side blitz for all clubs during the month of July for all non-county U16 players. All clubs will be receiving details shortly from games manager Willie Hegarty. U15 football development squad coaching session The next coaching session for the county U15 football development squad is on Saturday week, July 5th in Kilbride at 10.30 am sharp. There will be a coaches’ meeting at 9.15 am (also in Kilbride) on the morning. 17 Roscommon players attended Connacht academy For the third year Roscommon had 17 U15 development squad players who attended the three-day Connacht coaching residential academy which was held in the NUIG campus of Dangan last week. 7 hurlers and 10 footballers were chosen by the county and they performed brilliantly at the coaching academy and worked very hard over the three days. GAA games manager Willie Hegarty and full-time coaches Peter Carney and Prionsias Killian were with the lads in Galway. Roscommon coaching and games development provided transport to Galway and polo shirts for all players. The 17 players who attended was as follows: Football, Donal Smith (Boyle), Shane Carty, Conor Daly (Padraig Pearses), Ross Timothy, Shane Smith (St. Croans), Caoileann Fitzmaurice, Shane O’Malley (Michael Glaveys), Barry Creighton (Western Gaels), Fintan Sweeney, Liam Murtagh (Shannon Gaels). Hurling: Tom Mullen (Roscommon Gaels), Robert Byrne (St. Dominic’s), Thomas Featherstone (Oran), Tomas Ryan (Padraig Pearses), Hugh Rooney (Castlerea St. Kevin’s), Darren Fallon (Four Roads), Stephen Kilcommons (Athleague/Tremane).
