Roscommon intercounty U16 football blitz day On this Saturday Roscommon county U16 football squad will take part in an intercounty four-team blitz in St. Faithleachs GAA pitch, Ballyleague commencing at 11am sharp. Teams taken part are Sligo, Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon. U14 hurling development squad coaching Roscommon U14 hurling development squad have commenced their preparation for the Connacht Feile in Galway on June 14th with training on each Saturday morning in Athleague at 10.30am sharp. Young boys and girls represent Roscommon The coaching corner would like to congratulate the young boys and girls who represented Roscommon in the Cumann Na mBunscol mini games in Pearse stadium last Sunday before the Roscommon-Galway match in the Connacht football championship. Also 10 boys and 10 girls will represent Roscommon in the primary schools Connacht Feile next Saturday May 24th. Roscommon CBS win Connacht junvile hurling title Last Wednesday week in Abbeyknockmoy Roscommon CBS juvenile hurling team captured the Connacht College. s C title after a thrilling victory over St Enda’s (Galway City) by 3-15 to 3-5. Go Games primary schools hurling coaching blitz days Our three hurling coaches Prionsias Killian, Michael Carroll and Simon Coyle will be organising and conducting our Go Games hurling blitz days for all national schools commencing next Monday, May 26th at three different venues, On Monday in Four Roads, Tuesday in St. Croans GAA Park and Wednesday in Roscommon town. All schools will be notified by our three hurling coaches regarding times and venues.   U14 football development squad week 6 The first phase of the county U14 football development squad continues every Tuesday evening in all four regions with Ballyforan, Elphin, Ballinlough and Kilteevan the host venues. After six weeks of coaching there will be a blitz evening between the four regions on week 7 and 8. Big numbers attend primary school Go games blitzs In the first week of our primary schools Go games blitzs for 3rd and 4th classes their was huge numbers at all venues to date with 164 boys and girls in Dr. Hyde Park, 120 in Elphin, 135 in Kiltoom, 102 In Boyle and 111 in Oran. Our part-time coaches and TY students from Roscommon convent, Roscommon CBS, Elphin and Strokestown did trojan work all week to ensure every child enjoyed themselves playing Gaelic football. The coaching circuits went down a treat with all the kids. Go Games primary schools football coaching blitz week 2 In conjunction with our part-time school football coaches Roscommon coaching and games development continue their go games coaching workshops and mini blitz games for all boys and girls in 3rd and 4th class at different venues through the county this week taking in every national school. Roscommon senior schools comfy cafe championship draw The draw was made recently for the 2008 comfy café Roscommon senior schools football championship and is as follows:  (A) Roscommon/Elphin Community College v Garbally (B) Roscommon CBS v Abbey College, Boyle (C) Castlerea CS v St. Aloysius (D) St. Mary’s, Ballygar v St. Mary’s, Strokestown St. Aloysius College in 1st year football final St. Aloysius college 1st year football team have qualified for Connacht Colleges C football championship final after they had a super win over Balla last Thursday. They now play Kiltmagh CS in the decider at a date yet to be fixed. Go Games U8-U10 football+hurling club blitz evening Roscommon coaching and games development are currently holding a full month of Go Games blitzs for all our U8 and U10 players. Each club within the county will host one U8 and one U10 blitz evening as two clubs come together. The idea is that every players that turns up plays as there will be either 7-9 or an 11-a-side games. Every club coaching officers in football and hurling has received all the relevant information from GAA games manager Willie Hegarty. We want every young player to play and enjoy these games. We will be looking to parents to help out their local club on the evening. Primary schools skills star challenge  The response to our new skills star challenge in both football and hurling initiative which tests the skills of players in both codes has generated great interest among all the 6th class boys and girls in the majority of primary schools. Each child is tested on 10 different skills with their strong and weak foot in football and weak side in hurling. We hope to hold the county finals in June and there is a separate competition for boys and girls.   Underage hurlers on sale at great price for clubs Games manager Willie Hegarty has a supply of underage 30 inch hurlers for all the underage hurling clubs in the county at a great price of just six euro per hurley. Let’s hope that every club avails of this offer which is being helped out financially by both the Connacht Council and Croke Park games development. Clubs are asked to contact Willie Hegarty immediately. Primary schools competitions in both codes underway Action is now underway in both football and hurling as the primary school competitions are in full swing for the next two months.
