Connacht minor football championship The round robin Connacht minor football championship will commence on Saturday April 19th as Roscommon travel to Carrick-on-Shannon to play Leitrim and seven days later Roscommon will host Sligo at Dr. Hyde Park. Gary Wynne’s side completed their Connacht minor league programme last Saturday against Galway. County U16 club football championship begins this weekend The club U16 football championship begins this weekend with games in all three divisions. Let’s hope for some good quality action in all games. Primary school football and hurling coaching week 1 The Roscommon coaching and games development primary schools GAA coaching programme for football and hurling commenced this week for the first of our two ten week coaching cycles in 2008. During the next ten weeks all schools in the county will have coaching, Go blitz days and our first ever skills star challenge for boys and girls in 6th class. All of the above will be conducted by our part time coaches in both codes. VHI Cul camp students for Roscommon camps Any third level students wishing to work on our annual VHI GAA cul camps in both football and hurling are asked to apply to GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty ASAP. Coaching experience would be a help. Letter of application to Roscommon GAA county board office, Castle Street, Roscommon town. Football development squads up and running Roscommon coaching and games development commenced their U14- U15 football development programme last weekend. U14 football will be in four regions and will commence on next Tuesday evening April 15th while our U15 development squad began last Saturday morning in Kilbride. The next session for the U15 is on Saturday week April 19th. All clubs and players have being notified with all the information by our co-ordinators. U14 football feile competition on going The Roscommon U14 football feile competition continues every Wednesday evening and will soon be at semi-final stage. Connacht 1st and 2nd year football championship Roscommon second level colleges will be in action in the first round of the Connacht College’s 1st and 2nd year football championships at both B and C competitions. Play and stay with the GAA in May The month of May nationally in the GAA will be known as ‘stay and play with the GAA in May’ and here in Roscommon we will be holding U8-U10 Go Games blitzes at both football and hurling. The Roscommon coaching and games development have 13 centres in football and 4 in hurling organised for the blitzs. Each club within the county will have to host two blitz evenings at U8 and U10 level. All our blitzs will be either 7-a-side or 9-a-side to ensue that every boy or girl that arrives will play in all games.
