Coaching Corner

On this Thursday night, April 3rd there will be a Roscommon coaching and games development meeting in the Roscommon GAA County board offices at 9 pm sharp. All members are asked to attend. Primary school football and hurling coaching in April The Roscommon coaching and games development primary schools GAA coaching programme for football and hurling will commence on next Monday, April 7th for the first of our two ten-week coaching cycles in 2008. During the next ten weeks all schools in the county will have coaching, Go blitz days and our first ever skills star challenge for boys and girls in 6th class. All of the above will be conducted by our part-time coaches in both codes. VHI Cul camp students for Roscommon camps Any third level students wishing to work on our annual VHI GAA cul camps in both football and hurling are asked to apply to GAA games manager Willie Hegarty ASAP. Coaching experience would be a help.  Letter of application to Roscommon GAA county board office, Castle Street, Roscommon town. Connacht level one hurling course A Connacht GAA hurling level one course will take place in Ballinasloe this coming weekend, April 4th and 5th. All coaches in Roscommon are asked to contact Games Manager Willie Hegarty for further details and booking forms. It is hoped at least two coaches from every hurling club within the county will avail of this course. Football development squads ready to resume We will be commencing our U14- U15 football development programme this coming week. U14 football will be in four regions and will commence on Tuesday evening, April 15th while our U15 development squad will meet every Saturday morning in Kilbride, starting on this Saturday, April 5th at 10am sharp. All clubs and players will be notified of all the information by our co-ordinators this coming week. Roscommon minors play Galway on Saturday This weekend is the final round of games in the Connacht minor football league and for Gary Wynne’s side, who have won two out of three games to date, Galway is the opposition on this Saturday, April 5th at a Roscommon venue. St. Aloysius College in All-Ireland semi-final action On this coming Saturday, April 5th in Croagh outside Limerick City at 2.30 pm St. Aloysius College will play in the All-Ireland Colleges senior C football semi-final against Kenmare of Kerry. Good luck to all concerned from the coaching corner.  U14 football feile competition on going The Roscommon U14 football feile competition continues every Wednesday evening and will soon be at the closing stages. Connacht 2nd year football championship Once back at school all Roscommon second level colleges will be in action in the first round of the Connacht Colleges 2nd year football championships at both B and C competitions. Play and stay with the GAA in May The month of May nationally in the GAA will be known as ‘stay and play with the GAA in May’ and here in Roscommon we will be holding U8-U10 Go Games blitzs at both football and hurling. The Roscommon coaching and games development have 13 centres in football and 4 in hurling organised for the blitzs. Each club within the county will have to host two blitz evenings at U8 and U10 level. All our blitzs will be either 7-a-side or 9-a-side to ensure that every boy or girl that arrives will play in all games. 1st year football secondary school blitz day On Thursday, April 10th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 1st year football blitz day for all secondary schools in Co. Roscommon at St. Faithleachs GAA grounds in Ballyleague. Full-time coach Peter Carney will be informing all schools of the details this week.  2nd year football secondary blitz day On Thursday, April 17th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 2nd year football blitz day for all the secondary schools in the county at the St. Faithleachs GAA grounds in Ballyleague.
